Some kids were flying a kite on the beach.
A sight of the end of the pier, from the channel boardwalk.
Bouy marking the other side of the channel.
The top of the little marker at the end of the pier.
Many die diving into the channel or the lake from the end of the pier.
A perpetual flame across from the Coast Guard station.
The front side features a heavy concrete structure that looks like a ship’s bow, to break waves headed toward the lighthouse.
This vessel went deep into Lake Michigan on aux power.
A close-up of the top of the lighthouse, retouched for effect.
This ship supports marine research conducted by Grand Valley State University.
A bird’s nest fit for a flock of queens.
Mel says this sculpture used to be elsewhere.
A catamaran sits, unattended, on the beach on the north side of the channel.
Going on duty.
It was in the upper 50s and breezy, so the beaches were quiet.
A tern. Much less common than a gull.
All photos were shot with my Nikon D3100 with a Nikkor 55-300 lens, in auto mode.
